Laurie R. King has had so many New York Times bestselling crime novels (27 at last count) that it’s tempting to think books emerge from her computer fully formed. Not so! Every novel goes through drafts - some of them pretty terrible. King is willing to share her rewrites with students as a learning tool, and discuss why she made her choices on the final revision. She will tackle the questions on self-editing: when do you know when your writing is “off?” Is there such a thing as too many revisions? How do you know when you’ve finally “nailed it?” There will be a bit of pre-reading for this class.
